Benton Harbor, Michigan
(June 1998 - September 1998)

The Detroit Field Division MET was deployed to Benton Harbor, Michigan, on June 15, 1998, to pursue a violent drug-trafficking organization directed by Yusef Phillips. The Phillips organization distributed multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine in the inner-city and housing project areas of Benton Harbor. On September 24, 1998, the deployment concluded with the arrest of 42 individuals and the execution of 13 federal search warrants. The defendants were charged with various levels of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. In addition, this MET operation seized 38 ounces of crack cocaine, 100 grams of heroin, six vehicles, and $31,300 in U.S. currency.

The Placer County Special Enforcement Team (S.E.T.) is a small group of highly trained, specially equipped Deputies introduced into crisis situations to safely and efficiently resolve them.

Established in 1976, the Washington County Sheriff's Office Tactical Negotiations team is a highly trained tactical unit that is activated to deal with extremely hazardous situations where conventional police tactics and equipment are inadequate or too dangerous for resolution. Some specialized equipment includes chemical agents, less lethal munitions, armored vehicles, night vision and a variety of firearms. The team averages 40-50 response/call outs per year.
