This gold shield was given to the acting captain for the City of New York police, Herbert Graham by the members of the 15th Detective District in commemoration of 40 years active service from 1893 to 1933. Presented Sept. 1, 1933. The solid 14 karat yellow gold shield is in excellent condition. Wreaths frame the left and right side and reverse blue hard fired glass enamel surround the lettering and show off the center stone, a colorless or white garnet, which has a high refractive index that mimics the brilliance of a diamond. The gold weighs 48 grams. The shield is 2.7 inches tall. He retired in 1934 and died in 1936.
