Chicago Police 1st issue Sergeant badge. These badges were smaller than the police officer badges.
Chicago Police 2nd issue, known as the "coat shield." This style was so unpopular with the rank and file officers that the city agreed to go back to a star design after only a month of use. It is noted that the transition to the new star may have taken up to a year. Circa 1889.
