Walter Auble joined the force on Jan. 1, 1887. He was killed in the line of duty on Sep. 9, 1908. He is pictured here wearing his Series Two Captain's Badge.

Most large city police departments assign officers to patrol the cities parks. Back in the days when every assignment had its own badge the officers working the parks wore badges that included the word Park. This was also true with officers assigned to protect the cities water and electric departments and those officers enforcing health and safety laws.
