Many of this style badge with the letters instead of numbers are seen and many people mistakenly think they are the officer initials.  As the ID illustrates they are identification letters.  These badges were issued to various non sheriff's personnel such as railroad police, private guards for banks, manufacturing plants etc. The four badges below are in the same category in different configurations and dates of use.

     Badge #124 is sterling silver and dated 1917.                Badge #132 is 14k gold and was jeweler made.

This is a nice example of a regular deputy sheriff's badge circa 1910.  Later these badges had numbers added to the center.  Very few regular deputy badges are known to exist from this era..
