This sterling silver, hand engraved badge was worn by Sheriff Charles B. Howard who held the office from 1902-1918. The abbreviation DEPT at the top of the badge stands for Department not Deputy. This badge and Sheriff Moxley's badge below were in the collection of former Siskiyou Sheriff Al Cottar who served as sheriff from 1950-76 and previously was Chief of Police in Dunsmuir, Special Agent for the S.P.R.R. and an F.B.I. agent.
