A beautiful example of the jewelers art. Not sure which state this Washington Co. is from but the previous owner thought (or hoped) it was South Dakota. When a badge is this nice does it really matter....

First issued Marshal badge from Belvedere, Marin Co. Cal.  Belvedere was incorporated in 1896.  Thanks to Belvedere Chief of Police Mark Campbell for this information:  “The first Marshal was N.A. McLean who served until 1923.  During this time Frank Crosby served as Deputy Marshal.”  The badge is a large “pie plate” style at 3 1/2” tall, made of nickel with nickel plate.  Maker is L. H. Moise S.F. Cal.  Considered Rare.
