What an unexpected pleasure it was upon finding that this large museum was located in a former monestary. The monestary was created by Karl IV in 1350 for the Augustus monastical order. In 1784 by decree of Emperor Joseph II the monestary was liquidated and the area was set for use by the state. Since the middle 1960's a substantial part of the area has been used as a museum.

Probably the most impressive sight in this museum is the ceiling which was begun in the year 1350. Only a collector would take his eyes off of the beautiful architecture to notice the display items.

Existence of the museum of the Czech Republic's Police connected the existence of the Border Soldier's Museum, which was in 1973 changed to museum of "National Security Police and units of Ministry of Interior". In 1990 the Czech Republic's Police Museum which opened to the public on 12 April 1991. The museum takes up 1,700 sq. meters and has 3,100 objects on display which show the activity and development of security and police corps on the territory of the Czech Republic.
