Windber Chief of Police badge made of sterling silver and hallmarked C. D. Reese 122 Nassau St. New York STERLING.
Chief Bacigalupi was not impressed with the badge the city provided and wanted one more fitting to his office. Some time in 1921 he was presented with the sterling silver badge shown to the right.
John Newton Black, San Jose Police Chief joined the San Jose Police Department in 1909 after serving seven years with the Santa Clara Co. Sheriff's office. In 1916 Black who was then a Captain was promoted to Chief of Police, a position he held until his retirement in 1944. Pictured above is Chief Black wearing his custom jeweler made badge with the added banner showing his years served as Chief.

(1858-1866) 14k gold presentation badge. The San Francisco Bulletin newspaper in May of 1860 mentioned his badge and called it “Dazzling”.

Louis Silva was appointed Chief of Police in 1928 and served 16 years. He was the 2nd person to have the title Chief of Police in Hayward.

Chief Police San Leandro shield made by Irvine & Jachens. This badge is thought to have been Chief Peralta’s first Chief of Police badge. After the 14k gold badge below with presentation was presented to him this badge was used as a hat badge. A post was placed on the back in the center to secure the badge to a hat. Sadly this post was placed directly over the word “from” in the presentation. It has since had the post removed and restored by a jeweler.

Charles H. Palmer was listed as a Constable in Township 1 as early as 1910 and into the 1920’s. The U.S. Census for 1930 lists him as Chief of Police Martinez, a postion he held until 1939.

William M. Veale was the Undersheriff of Contra Costa County. His father Richard R. Veale was the elected Sheriff 1895-1935.

Fred C. Hoover was Chief of Police in Winfield from 1921-1936. He began his lawman career in 1914 working as a Deputy Sheriff for his father, L. W. Hoover, who was the elected Sheriff of Cowley County Kansas from 1912-1916. From 1917-1918 Fred followed in his fathers footsteps and was the Undersheriff. His Chief’s badge is 14k gold.
