George Washington Bennett joined the San Francisco Police Department in May of 1878.
He was promoted to Sergeant in 1889.
In 1896 he was promoted to Lieutenant.
He retired as a Lieutenant in March of 1898 however in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake and fire he returned to duty as a Detective for a short time. SKU0087
