Sheriff R.D. Carter who was elected in 1882-1883 and then by his nephew George R. Carter who was elected Sheriff in 1927-1934. This badge is pictured in Witherell’s book, “California’s Best” on page 27 and in
Jim Casey’s book, “Badges of America’s Finest”
on page 35.

This 14k gold badge was presented to San Francisco Police Officer John J. McLaughlin by fellow officers of the Harbor Police Station for “Act of Bravery on December 25, 1927. McLaughlin was appointed to the department on
October 1, 1924.
The badge is hallmarked Irvine & Jachens and marked 14k.
