Baltimore Police 2nd issue shield used from 1860 to 1862.  The Baltimore Police really got into the Roman shield on this extra large badge.  In the center is the Roman Fasces, an ax surrounded by a bundle of rods.  It shybolized the power and jurisdiction of law enforcement on the Baltimore badge and the Roman King's power to punish his subjects in ancient Rome

Baltimore Police 3rd issue Type 1, the original construction with two pieces, a silver colored center seal  soldered to a brass 20 point ringed outer border..  In use from 1862 to 1890.  During this period the Type 2 was introduced which was cheaper to made with one piece construction all of the same silver colored metal.

Humboldt County Fish and Game Warden shield, made of sterling silver with hard fired blue enamel lettering.  The enamel work is exceptional and the jeweler reinforced the back of the badge to insure the badge did not flex and pop out the enamel.

In 1895, the California Legislature enacted laws which allowed for the appointment of county fish and game wardens by the county boards of supervisors.
