William Cornelius McCarthy in January of 1920 was promoted to the positiion of a U.S. Officer for the Internal Revenue Service. His 1918 WWI Draft Registration shows his job as Deputy Collector IRS. A native son of California he was born in San Francisco on April 12, 1884 and died on April 22, 1959. The badge is hand engraved 14k gold with hard fired blue enamel

Jacob W. Schmitt's solid gold Superintendent of Cleveland Police presentation badge. The badge is over 4 1/2" tall. Presentation: J. W. Schmitt / on his 25th Anniver'y / PUBLIC SERVICE / Vom Stammtisch / May 20, 1882. The badge is hallmarked P. L. Miles. It remains in the original jewelers wooden box. Inside the box is covered in silk lining which has the printed company name: P. L. Miles & Co. Mftg. Jewelers 314 Euclid Av. Cleveland. 4 3/4" tall.
The Vom Stammtisch translates from German to English as "Group of Regulars."
