This shield is predominantly 14k with the center piece being 18k. It has 7 genuine rubies, sapphires (6) and a large diamond. It features an extremely ornate design with a fire hydrant, fire fighters, a boat, hoses and an eagle. The level of detail and craftsmanship is incredible down to the fire spigots at the end of the hoses.
The front of this large badge has the words "Albany Fire Commissioner R. Lawrence". It also has the word Assiduity on the front. SKU8822
On the rear of the shield is a presentatioin reading "presented to Richard Lawrence by the members of the Richard Lawrence Assn. September 10th, 1888."
Weighing 50.2 pennyweights (78.1 grams, 2.51 troy ounces). This is all gold other than the diamond, rubies, sapphires and two tiny rivets which attach the multiple components of the layered gold top.
