John Newton Black, San Jose Police Chief joined the San Jose Police Department in 1909 after serving seven years with the Santa Clara Co. Sheriff's office. In 1916 Black who was then a Captain was promoted to Chief of Police, a position he held until his retirement in 1944. Pictured above is Chief Black wearing his custom jeweler made badge with the added banner showing his years served as Chief. SKU8668
